Previous Dean's Award Winners

Awarded to up to two students nationally each trimester, the Dean's Award winners are awarded a 50% scholarship for the remainder of their current course and any future Kaplan Business School course. The award winners are determined based on academic performance and overall contribution to the KBS community.


2023 WINNERS

Alberto Aguilera / Chilean / Master of Business Analytics

Trimester 3, 2023

Alberto Aguilera has truly gone above and beyond in engaging the wider KBS community, with his contribution outside of the classroom genuinely unparalleled. As well as his excellent grades, Alberto received the Outstanding Engagement Award last trimester for being ever present and involved at events, as a student mentor, student ambassador and even contributing to KBS marketing collateral. With aspirations of becoming a professional coach after his studies, we’ll no doubt see Alberto reach new heights on his journey as a KBS student.

Hazel Miranda / Filipino / Master of Accounting

Trimester 3, 2023

Hazel Miranda has found the perfect balance of being a model student, with HDs in all of her subjects so far, but then also extending her efforts to the KBS community. As a student ambassador, Hazel’s involvement is Orientation, Wellness Week, High Achiever’s Events and Feedback Week has been instrumental in engaging students. Furthermore, she is a student mentor, has worked with the KBS marketing team on social media engagement and also recently attended a TEQSA conference to represent KBS. Hazel’s contributions as a student have been of the highest level.

Joyanne Coca / Filipino / Master of Business Administration (Digital Management)

Trimester 3, 2023

Joyanne Coca’s contributions to KBS to date have been nothing short of outstanding. Beyond the sense of pride in achieving HDs in all her subjects, she’s gone out of her way to be actively involved in the KBS community, and beyond. Her work as a student ambassador has seen her involved in careers workshops, multicultural week, Graduation and more. In addition, Joyanne also volunteers her time as a Team Leader for the Study NSW International Student Welcome Desk wherein she assists and supports incoming NSW international students from overseas. We’re lucky to have students like Joyanne at our school.

Marj Encarnacion / Filipinos / Master of Business Administration

Trimester 2, 2023

Marj emerged as an outstanding candidate for the Dean's Award due to her multifaceted involvement in extracurricular activities at KBS and her academic performance. As a dedicated student ambassador, mentor, and volunteer, she demonstrated exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, fostering a supportive environment for her peers. Despite demanding schedules, Marj actively contributed to pivotal events such as welcoming new students, mentoring fellow peers, organizing career workshops, and alumni activities. Her influence extended beyond KBS; she passionately shared her Australian study experiences, promoting KBS through StudyNSW and various other platforms. Marj's impactful participation in programs like the Business Consulting Project with Careers not only honed her skills, but also showcased the institution's excellence. Bugra Taskin / Turkish / Master of Business Analytics (Extension)

Trimester 1, 2023

Bugra is enrolled in our Master of Business Analytics (Extension) course in Adelaide and has attained a High Distinction in all but two of his completed subjects.  Beyond his studies, Bugra has enriched the learning of his peers in dozens of ways, though the most unprecedented have included his design of a calculator that helps students comprehend (and pass) our statistics subjects and his development of a dictionary comprising an easy-to-understand definition for every technical term in our Digital Marketing subject.

Angie is enrolled in our MBA (Project Management) in Melbourne and has achieved a High Distinction in all but one of her completed subjects.  In addition, Angie has been among the most active volunteers for orientation days, graduation ceremonies and city tours while also establishing study groups to help strengthen every participant’s performance.

Yvonne's active involvement as a Student Ambassador in the KBS Industry Immersion Program and the Mentorship Program has been instrumental in promoting student engagement and career development. Despite living 220 kilometers from campus and working full-time, Yvonne has achieved High Distinctions in all her subjects and regularly contributes to events such as Orientation and Graduation, demonstrating her dedication and commitment to the Kaplan community.

Kamashi Sharma Pokhrel / Nepalese / Master of Business Administration (Women in Leadership)

Trimester 3, 2022

Kamashi has achieved High Distinctions in all her subjects thus far and has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and dedication to both her academic and extracurricular activities. As a Student Ambassador, Kamashi has played a crucial role in a variety of initiatives. This includes the Knowledge Sharing Program, the Mentorship Program and the Academic Internship workshop. Kamashi's contributions to the Kaplan community have been widely recognized, and she was also a participant in the International Student Ambassador Program through StudyNSW.

Selvy is likewise enrolled in our Master of Business Analytics (Extension) with High Distinctions in almost every subject.  Selvy does a lot of volunteering and organising as a student ambassador, but her work beyond our Sydney campus is particularly special.  She represents Kaplan Business School at the City of Sydney’s Australian International Sports Organisation, the 2022 Lord Mayor’s event, and the International Student Leadership and Ambassador recruitment team.

Domici is enrolled in our Master of Business Analytics (Extension) and has achieved a High Distinction in the 12 subjects she has completed thus far. Domici is based at our Brisbane campus where, as a student ambassador, she has volunteered at numerous Orientations and is actively involved in our mentorship program. However, it’s especially impressive that she has also been featured in a Q&A session for our offshore Student Recruitment team.

Carolina was enrolled in our Bachelor of Business (Accounting) at our Melbourne campus where she attained a High Distinction for all but one of her course’s 24 subjects. Beyond her scholarly triumphs, Carolina worked with our marketing team to promote KBS not only to potential students at other Kaplan entities but externally as well at events hosted by Study Australia. She was also a very effective volunteer at our own events such as Orientation.

Sonia is enrolled as an online student in our MBA with a Women in Leadership specialisation and has attained a High Distinction for every subject she has completed thus far. As a qualified human rights lawyer, particularly for refugees and migrant communities in general, Sonia has delivered related presentations to her peers and is a trusted source of personalised pro bono legal advice. Sonia also served as the Student Representative on our influential Teaching and Learning Committee.

Raz is enrolled in our Master of Business Administration at our Adelaide campus where she has attained a High Distinction in every subject thus far despite commencing as an offshore student in The Philippines. During her time as a Student Ambassador, Raz has served as a coordinator of the Peer Mentorship Program and has facilitated webinars for fellow students overseas on how they can succeed in their assessments and adapt to life in Australia.

Inez is enrolled in our Master of Accounting and has attained a High Distinction in nine of the eleven subjects she has completed. On campus, she’s a mentor in our International Peer Mentorship Program, an event coordinator for Sonder, and a volunteer at Orientations and Feedback Weeks. She is also the only student at Kaplan who serves as an ambassador for Study Adelaide and as a member of the student support committee at the Indonesian Students' Association of Australia.

Long’s achievement is likewise special because he’s one of our hundreds of students who was overseas at the onset of COVID-19 and has been unable to return due to the closure of Australia’s borders. And yet he’s attained a High Distinction in every subject of his MBA. In each of those subjects he has proactively launched WhatsApp groups to further his peers’ learning and social connectedness. He has also delivered video production lessons and led peer mentoring groups.

Aishwarya is enrolled in the Master of Business Analytics (Extension) at our Adelaide campus and has likewise attained a High Distinction in every subject. Aishwarya is similarly a Student Ambassador and has established a WhatsApp group for Statistics to help her peers succeed in what can often be a challenging subject. She has also represented Kaplan Business School in a number of external events such as those hosted by Study Adelaide and the IAPA Advancing Analytics Conference.

Payal is enrolled in our Master of Business Analytics (Extension) and has attained a High Distinction in every subject thus far. Beyond her studies, Payal’s extracurricular contribution has included the establishment of a Women in Analytics Club with her colleagues, the organisation of trivia nights, the facilitation of connections between KBS and her former employer Google, and involvement as a volunteer at graduation ceremonies, orientation sessions and several other events.

Lucas is enrolled in our Master of Business Administration and has attained a High Distinction in all but one of his subjects. He is perhaps best known at KBS (and outside of Kaplan too) as a co-organiser of the most recent TEDx event in Sydney to which numerous KBS students were invited, the focus of which was climate change. Lucas was also ever-present at last month’s graduation ceremonies where he was a director and presenter of our Facebook Live broadcast.

Aleksandra is based at our Sydney campus enrolled in the MBA. What makes her stand out as a worthy recipient of the Dean’s Award is most notably her valuable contribution to the KBS student community as an Academic Board Student Representative and her role as a Co-author and Program Coordinator of the Sharing knowledge program. This program has built a culture of engagement amongst students.

As a Student Ambassador, Aleksandra is devoted to empowering fellow students and has successfully nurtured a strong, inclusive community through organising several campus events.

Kannu Sharma deans award

Having been born in India and raised in Austria, Kannu has truly embraced the multicultural student community at KBS. As a student ambassador, Kannu has voluntarily taken on extra-curricular activities such as helping to plan and organise orientation days, workshops and Alumni events. She was recently involved in RUOK? day where she initiated the idea of a speed-dating session which focused on students’ mental wellbeing.

Despite being proactively involved in the student community at KBS, Kannu’s dedication and commitment to her studies have shone through. To date, she has successfully achieved 10 high distinctions and has been the recipient of the KBS Highest Achiever Award, having received the overall highest mark in the Brisbane campus.

Juan is based at our Sydney campus and is enrolled in the MBA. He has been prominent helping at our graduation ceremony, organising RUOK events, serving as a panellist at Orientation, and has even recorded this video about his experiences studying online. Most recently, he played an influential role in a working group tasked with developing a new set of Graduate Attributes and, of the eight subjects he’s completed, he’s attained a High Distinction in seven of them.

Debbie is enrolled at our Adelaide campus and is studying a Master of Accounting. What makes her contribution special is that she serves as an Executive Assistant for the Treasurer’s Office at the Council of International Students Australia (CISA) and is also a CPA Australia Student Ambassador. In addition to being a study coach to numerous peers and volunteering for many campus events, Debby has attained six High Distinctions out of the eight subjects she has thus far completed.

Dominika has achieved a High Distinction in every subject she has completed so far. In addition to being a panellist at our Orientation programs and conducting interviews at our graduation ceremonies, Dominika has been featured in a special video, profiling her life story and time at KBS. As a Student Ambassador, she has also been involved in organising various campus events and national KBS initiatives.

Although Deimante has attained a High Distinction in each of her subjects thus far, her contribution to the KBS community goes way beyond her academic performance. She has been involved with our Graduation Ceremony, RU OK days and used her coaching qualifications to guide her fellow students through the most emotionally challenging parts of their studies. Most innovatively, she has initiated an on-campus meditation class, a personal development workshop and weekly yoga lessons. These exercises - all to do with enriching the human mindset - are complemented by flyers she has designed on how to think positively and have honest conversations.

Of the 13 subjects Daniel has completed so far, he has attained a High Distinction in 11 of them – an astonishing achievement. In relation to his contribution to the KBS community, Daniel spends much of his time coaching fellow students from Vietnam on their English language skills, he is an active participant in almost all events held on and off-campus, and has proudly promoted Kaplan externally via his involvement in the Lord Mayor’s Student Welcome functions and the Launch Your Marketing Career forums.
