6 Tips To Effectively Juggle Work Life Study Balance

As a student, it can be difficult to find that perfect balance of work, life and study. This article covers a few tips on how to effectively manage your work and study commitments while still having plenty of quality time to yourself.

Look for work that will be beneficial to the career area/job that you are interested in

In one way or another, every job we dive into helps us to get to know ourselves better. We figure out what like and/or don’t like about certain career paths and work environments.

Ideally, you should aim to find a job that develops areas you’re weak in. Let’s say you’re currently doing an MBA and aren’t too confident when giving presentations. To help yourself polish up your communication skills, you could get a job in sales or customer service. Consider what areas you could work in that would help you to upskill.

Limit your working hours

Some may not want to hear this, as less hours = less money, however many universities recommend a workload of around 12-15 hours per week. Why? Well, there has been a lot of research done to suggest that any more than this general amount of 12-15 hours and students grades begin to suffer, or even worse – they drop out completely.

Choose a job that’s flexible and fits in with your study patterns
When planning out your work routine, organise your working schedule with your boss around your study timetable so that there’s little chance of either clashing.

Don’t take a job that’s too mentally draining
A mentally draining job will leave you too tired to hit the books after work. Over-committing to working more hours than you’re comfortable with is unfair on you, especially when you are putting your own money down on education. To get around this, you could suggest the idea to your boss of doing fewer shifts in the beginning of your studies, and more shifts later once you’re comfortable with your study routine.

Look after your health
Make sure that you take enough time to look after yourself. It goes without saying but a balanced diet, adequate sleep, and regular exercise are crucial to a successful study and work life. Healthy body – healthy mind!
