Kaplan Business School (KBS) recently organised an event for our students and staff to meet and explore cricket with the sport’s legends-Australian cricketing heroes Doug Bollinger and Steve O’Keefe.
Doug and Steve are two well-accomplished Australian cricketers who have both played at international levels for Australia and several franchise cricket tournaments around the world, including the Indian Premier League (IPL). We couldn’t have asked for better exponents of cricket to train with!
KBS students and staff received a tour of the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) by Doug and Steve and were fortunate enough to witness memorabilia and statues of cricketing icons such as Don Bradman, Richie Benaud, Steve Waugh, and many other international cricketers. Don Bradman’s bat received the most amount of attention, with Steve Waugh’s baggie green cap close behind.
Following the tour, everyone had the opportunity to participate in a cricket practice at the SCG’s indoor nets. Many who had never played cricket before had the opportunity to bowl and bat with the help of Doug and Steve. Soft tennis balls were used to start with, followed by a transition into traditional hard red and white balls. This enriching experience coincides with the latest series of the Ashes cricket in Australia, the high-profile tournament played between Australia and England.
The expedition could not have ended better. Students and staff completed their cricket sessions and moved on to some drinks and food at the SCG’s outdoor BBQ areas. Everyone was delighted by great conversations on the history of cricket and got to take in the personal experiences of Doug and Steve.
KBS would like to thank the SCG, Doug and Steve for this unforgettable experience!
