Job Screening: What You Probably Didn’t Know

While it’s common knowledge that HR and recruiters use Facebook to gauge candidates, what exactly is their process and mentality behind job screening?

Reppler conducted a survey of 300 professionals who are involved in the hiring process at their company to understand the use of social networks for job screening applicants. The results of this survey are shown in this infographic below.

So what have we learnt?

  1. There are no ‘maybes’ about it. Job screening via social media platforms are now incredibly commonplace, with 9 out of 10 employers using it for recruitment.
  2. Facebook and Twitter are used the most, so be sure to have those tidied up as best as you can.
  3. Have your online presence looking its best before submitting any job applications. Companies conduct job screening and look at social networking profiles very early in the recruitment process.

Above all, your online image is a reflection of your professionalism. Use your common sense – hateful posts, sexually explicit photos, public conversations about illicit drugs, or anything of that nature should be avoided.
