Master of Professional Accounting

The Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) is for those from non-accounting backgrounds who wish to pursue a career in the accounting industry. It equips students with knowledge and skills in accounting and related fields to gain employment in a variety of organisations in public practice and industry.

Accredited with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), CPA Australia (CPA), and the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAA),  our students are able to easily articulate into these professional programs. The Institute of  Public Accountants (IPA) recognises that the MPA meets membership requirements for Associate status. Successful graduates qualify for eight exemptions from ACCA membership examinations. ACCA is recognised as the leading global professional accountancy body.

The Master of Professional Accounting course enables a graduate to be classified as an “accountant” in accord with the requirements of the Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO Code: 2211-11).

Upon completion of the Master of Professional Accounting, you will be able to

  • demonstrate professional skills and knowledge in relation to contemporary accounting issues and related practices
  • apply appropriate professional and analytical skills to address specific accounting and business issues and challenges
  • evaluate professional accounting and business issues emerging from strategic developments in practice and accounting regulation
  • analyse contemporary accounting issues within a range of theories and frameworks
  • analyse the impact of law and ethics on accounting practices
  • be classified as an ‘accountant’ in accordance with the requirements of the Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO Code: 2211-11) 
  • be eligible for admission into the professional programs offered by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), CPA Australia (CPA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA)
  • meet the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) membership requirements for Associate status
  • qualify for eight exemptions from ACCA membership examinations.

Intakes

Kaplan Business School offers three study periods each year. Students may commence their studies in any of the three trimester intakes.
