After many years working in management roles in organisations in the UK and Australia, Deborah held an academic role at the University of South Australia for almost 20 years. She developed an international profile as a communication researcher and was invited to present and to teach at universities around the world, including an invitation to mentor academics at the prestigious Helsinki School of Economics. Her research has been published in some of the most respected communication and higher education journals and edited books.

Her teaching interests include organisational communication and critical thinking at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has received teaching awards in recognition of her work engaging students and developing learning communities. In addition, for eight years Deborah was the programme director of both an Australian management programme and the largest international programme offered from Australia. She is now National Lecturer in Charge of Professional and Business Communications at Kaplan Business School, Australia.
